February 3, 2007 - Halifax, NS

It was a great story, the concept was well played, i enjoyed the evolving mood throughout the show. The few times the guitars were out of tuned were handled really well by Mays especially when Dale came over and actually tuned Matt's top string while he was playing.

I had the auditory pleasure of seeing and hearing the sublime Matt Mays perform for a sold out crowd at the Cohn on Saturday night. What a joy, what a joy, well crafted performance piece, fantastic lighting, amazing sound quality (loved the crashing waves for song transitions!) and a sweet and quiet little encore straight from the heart. It was great to sit and just let it wash all over me. Superior show. Thanks.

I completely have a new respect your you guys, keep on rocking and plz come back soon- new fan, Ash

________

wicked show at a great venue. played a solid set of the new cd, possibly in its intirety, then came out wiht one of the best encores possible, city of lakes, what are we gonna do come the month of sept., on the hood, and finished with cocaine cowgirl. This guy is the face of canadian rock to come!

They pulled it off. I was skeptic after listening to the album how they were going to make it happen, but it blew my mind. I've seen matt live 4 times before, and this was his best by a landslide. The effort that was put in in addition to the variety of music was just outstanding. Spoonful on the album ends so quickly, and they let it run a litte more live - that Rocked. The chick that was singing backup vocals was hot, no doubt. Under my senses is such a dynamic song, and to have her rock the mic the way she did was an experience in itself. I didn't miss the lack of el torp tunes, and appreciated the acoustic encore, however the set was so good, I wouldn't have criticised not doing anything more. Can't wait until the next vancouver show.

January 27, 2007 - Edmonton, AB

I missed Matt Mays twice in my home town and traveled a 1000km's to catch him in Edmonton. It was brilliant from start to finish. It was probably the most elaborately executed club show I have ever seen. The Museum Pieces rocked but their set was too short, which (knowing Matt May's was up next) speaks volumes about their talent. When The Angels Make Contact was played in it's entirety live and it was even more captivating than the album. The lighting, sound, and performances were all top notch and above what one would expect from a club show. The acoustic encore was beautiful and it gave me the full Matt Mays experience I so sorely missed out on twice. Fight tooth and nail to see this tour live for the remaining dates. It's not one too miss. aggbug

January 13, 2007 - Chester, NS

An amazing musical experince on January 13th at the Chester Playhouse - Matt Mays and Angels Ensemble delivered a raw and emotive performance... Matt and his crew, with an earnest passion for the pure artistry of it, presented a concert that would normally take a small army of sound and light technicians to pull off. I had a feeling that a slight chaos was drawn into order - one that was never slick but satisfyingly honest and sincere... you got such a strong sense of investment in this ambitious endeavour. Matt came out in character and, as promised, presented his Angels soundtrack/concept piece from start to finish - supported by a troup of outstanding musicians... so excellent was the title track, as were Spoonful of Sugar and Rough Tumble Down - never self-indulgent with his guitar solos, Matt seems to know how to leave his audiences wanting more... The performance of Under My Senses was a great highlight - I am sorry that I do not know all the performers' names... perhaps something Matt may consider... Dual percussionists, Dale Murray on the pedal steel and Rickenbacker...Tim Jim's technical direction... the anticipation of the next track - the question of how would he pull off something that was laid down on multiple tracks, mixed and then processed in this live venue?... never disappointment... And to wrap up the performance with Mornin' Sun... all of the amazing harmonies of the evening were pulled together into a gentle, 'credit-rolling' style mantra - sung in harmonic unison - so great that we all could enjoy this vision... aggbug

January 24, 2007 - Regina, SK

What an amazing experience! I don't honestly think that I can put into words how incredible the show was tonight @ The Exchange. The creativity that Matt and the band express on the disc is one thing, but seeing them perform it all live totally makes me appreciate the amazing talent they have! Thanks for the awesome acoustic set too, you really connected with the whole crowd tonight!! Can't wait to hear more awesome new music and see another wicked live show. Keep it up! aggbug

January 23, 2007 - Winnipeg, ON

Brilliant. Vocals, percussion, strings and background video proved "they're movin' on up!". It's a little disheartening that the convulsion inducing strobe lights were too much and way too blinding for such an intimate venue. However, the new sounds and the acoustic "classics" mixed so damn well with the angelic voice of Sarah Adams (?? - i'm very sorry if I didn't get her name right)...Tim delivered mesmerizing solos.... Jarrett's work on the steel guitar was truly top notch Canadian work... the entire ensemble worked so well together. The show far surpassed all expectations. I think I'm a fan of Hip-like proportions. Keep The Girl!!

The show was so impressive, with the smoke, lights, film in the background, it all just melted together and Alana Stewart was phenomenal. We go to lots of shows and we both loved it as did the whole crowd. Enjoy your tour. You'll be bringing alot of creative pleaure to your audiences.

Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for the amazing show at the Mod Club on January 20, 2007.  I didn't know what to expect with the new album but it totally blew my mind.  The production was unbelievable and the sound was incredible.  I really hope it was well received and that you come to Toronto again.

I am pretty sure Matt Mays is the saviour of Rock and Roll.
Thank you so much

This show was suprising at the least! Had no idea what to expect when Matt came out with a hair cut and a blazer. I loved that he played the album from start to finish, with the video and lights....it eerily reminded me of something the great Neil Young would have done..just go out there and do the show how you want to and love every minute of it. Fantastic show Matt, I truly appreciate that your sticking to your guns and doing what you want to do!

Wow! What an amazing show it was. I was completely blown away by the production of it. I heard some grumbling that he didnt play any El Torpedo tracks, but that was kind of expected given the format of the new album. I was totally blown away! Thank you so much for the amazing experience.

Great show! Matt Mays defines genuine Canadian talent! An artist who pushes his artistic creativity and moves to different directions at his own will. Laid back guy, with a passion for his work. Always will be a strong supporter!? - Sam Chang

Just wanted to express my thoughts on last night's show. To be honest I wasn't familiar with the soundtrack, only the earlier MM&ET. I soaked in the whole show, bought the CD and listened to it this morning. Brilliant!!!! I can't categorize, name a style or compare it with other music. This is so distinctive and it's been a while since I have heard anything that made me think about the music. I felt traits of Gabriel, Floyd, Rush through the show ( this is a compliment), but nothing to say "oh it sounds like so and so". I love the fact that the Museum Pieces are also part of your band. It gave it a very close and personal feeling if that makes any sense to you. Anyway, thanks for the show and I hope you come back again.
